Vision is one of those priceless gifts and few healthy steps will keep the eyes healthy. Taking simple measures can help one achieve healthy and beautiful eyes free of dark circles, wrinkles and prevent you from common eye diseases as well as preserve your vision.

Here are a few eye care tips mentioned by various experts:

  • Eat plenty of foods which are rich in beta carotene which helps you have healthy eyes. Include fruits and vegetables like carrots, drumstick, spinach, papaya and mangoes in your diet. Eating plenty of Vitamins A, E, C, and some Zinc and Selenium can help prevent many diseases including those that affect the eyes.
  • Practice simple eye exercises which help preserve vision or prevent diseases; there is research that suggests aerobic exercise, in general, reduces eye pressure. Exercising regularly improves blood circulation to the eyes and provides enough oxygen to them for good performance.
  • Always wear sunglasses with adequate UV protection. Direct sun rays cause heavy damage to the eyes. Always verify that your glasses provide ample protection to your eyes.
  • Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water every day to avoid any kind of puffiness in the eyes. Drinking adequate amount of water helps to get rid of the waste accumulating on your body. Splash your eyes with cool water periodically as it helps relax the eyes and also reduces puffiness.
  • When you are working long hours at the computer or reading, lift your eyes away from the screen periodically to rest them. Focus on a distant object. This prevents your eyes from becoming overstrained and helps rest overtired eyes. Take a few minutes to close your eyes and relax them. Rest will refresh the eyes and help them work more efficiently.
  • Milk is a good and safe natural cleanser. To clean your eyes use a clean cotton ball dipped in milk.
  • To induce a glow into your eyes insert 2 drops of pure rose water using a dropper.
  • Consider placing a slice of potato, cucumber or cool tea bags on both the eyes, after 10 minutes remove and wash the eyes. This helps to avoid under eye wrinkles and dark circles around the eyes.
  • Try to blink your eyes instead of rubbing them for any reason as blinking is a good massage and exercise for the eyes.
  • Have your eyes checked by a certified optician annually to rule out any disease or changes in vision.
